You set that up very, very well. Bravo.
And the fact that you put up multiple pages at once to preserve flow? Thank you. So many webcomicers go out of their way to drag things out, it's very refreshing to see someone who cares more about the story.
That shot of Duane eying the eyeball looks so grotesquely, wonderfully poetic - the pose makes him look forlorn and reflective, but we don't know yet if he's still out of it, or if he is fully aware of what he's done. Can hardly wait to see how you handled his reaction, fantastic work as always!
O.....M......G...... ^w^ Duane you look even more sexy as a "zombie" ... if that's not too weird to say? SQUEE! And now we see Duane refreshing his rotting parts, lol, popping in a new eye like a fresh contact!
That last page... that last page just made me feel a spike of sorrow. Not for Duane... who if he realizes just what he did in the night might not like it, but will probably accept it as a sad inevitability... But my heart in that last page.... my heart was aching for Sette. For all that she is a tough girl... i don't think she actually realized just what she was being asked to do. To kill a man sure. That's easy... to use this man, inhuman in form, but a scholar and gentleman in all else, as a weapon in such a way...
If given the choice... I'm not sure if she'll be able to bring herself to do that to him again. To see him in that way again.
You know, I think the part of this that really struck me is Sette. Carnage and gore was a little more imaginative than expected, but I didn't exactly expect them to be having tea in there. Sette though, seems to be clashing with the inhumanity in Duane she's been told of, and her personal experience with him.
can't say i didn't see this coming lol. the moment duane appeared behind turas and took off his hood i just knew he was sol, and that it was gonna be messy... but wow is it messier then i thought it would be...
I like to imagine this was how Duane regained his ... higher mental functions. The sun rose, just as he'd plucked out Turas' lovely, juicy eyeball and was about to eat it. Woke up, and just sat there, disgusted with himself - until Sette enters. At which point of course he'll be even more desperately full of self-loathing - letting an "innocent child" witness all that carnage.
Fffff, oh poor Duane is going to feel HORRIBLE about this unless Sette gets him cleaned up and never lets him know. Though he'd probably be able to tell if his inner hunger felt better. Also Sette's going to have nightmare fuel for LIFE.
So this morning I was all, "Should I eat THEN webcomics, or webcomics then eat?" I chose webcomics first. Looks like I'll be saving on breakfast today!
(Just kidding, I have delicious chicken leftovers. No zombie is keeping me from that.)
Gratulations. I could always observe that Ashley has very good drawing skills but she is now officially one of the very few comic artists that can draw a foot properly. This may sound stupid but it is a true thing. Somehow this bodypart makes even the famous comic artists struggle to the point of where they try to obscure them with obstacles just so they don't need to draw them.
Duane really got beautiful eyes, ne? <3
Oh right, the blood, flesh and organs part is a bit creepy but the way he sits there just looking at the eyeball is so... so... mesmerizing.
In a horrific kind of way, yet you can´t look away. Just like Sette. Poor girl gonna be so shocked. Same for Duane who always knew what he could do at night and always tried to avoid doing exactly that. Poor fellow. :(
Holly cow, there is a mexican phrase for when you open a door and find a blood covered undead, mexicans say it for other things too, it is "En la torre!", well, I mean it is a very serious business thet of owning an "attack zombie".
OoOoOoh... oh my, Ashley you've outdone yourself. I haven't had that kind of emotional response wrenched from a graphic novel in ages. I just hope you know, you are absolutely adored and admired. Bravo, Ms. Cope!
Three pages <3 How satisfying, too!
Ugh, poor Duane. All his enchantments are still down even though the sun is up. I think Sette has a lot more to worry about now than him finding out where they are. Of course, she can cover her ass by telling him that man was a red berry boy, and showing him her hurt arm. Duane wanted to kill the red berry boys, although not like this.
Gad-freaking-zook! Now that is a sequence of pages that anyone would remember for a long while. Excellent pages!
...I wonder if Sette's going to start wearing shoes after this.
That last panel, damn. Amazing work.
No one remembers Sette's phobia of guts and gore, way back from when she and Duane first stumbled on the Red Berry Boy's crypt? I think seeing this is going to do more than give her nightmares. Scarred for life, might possibly faint in the next two panels. Just saying.
I am suprised that I am the first to mention this, but does anyone else notice that the things on page 25 look exactly like the smoke eels from when Cara died way back in chapter 2 except red this time?
I'm so curious as to how the both of them are going to react it's killing me, I can't wait for an update. I expect Sette to be... Horrified. And freak out about the blood and guts like she did with the urns. Scream? I'm not sure. But I half expect her to say something like "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!", because to be honest... She didn't really think this through. And when Duane comes to his senses... He'll be so angry. At Sette for bringing him there, for leaving him alone with this man, and mostly at himself... I'm expecting a huge confrontation :(
I need a "Groundhog Day" charm, or something to make me forget these three pages. Then I would use it over and over and over, just so I could relive the wonderful experience of reading them again, and again, and again ...
I also really like the fact that Duane's abdomen area is most bloody... one gets the idea he's been eating Turas, having Turas fall out the bottom of him, and eating Turas again in a 20 GOTO 10 loop all night
Poor Sette, poor Duane. I don't think Sette had any inkling Turas went in there; she was out cold in the laundry cart when he showed up. I'm thinking she was asking Duane if he had the "monster" tied up.
Apparently, he did not.
Can't wait to see the next pages. Bravo, Ashley. And thanks for giving us the whole scene at once.
...Oh. Oh my.
As much as part of me would like to see Sette chide him for eating people in public again, I'm actually enjoying seeing the more human side of her, beneath all that bravado. Also, I take it them red things are the gnawing serpents he keeps mentioning, which up to now I thought were just metaphorical.
A+ on the pacing and setup there. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Woah. I pretty much expected what happened, but not to be shown quite so explicitely. But it's kind of honest to do it at this point and show just what kind of monster our Duane can be. Though actually, the creepiest part for me was the last panel of the second page - Sette's bare foot stepping in blood and that finger... it really made me dread clicking "next".
So, I had to show this to you guys, cause I found this awesome.
Akinator the Web Genius is a program that will guess a fictional character by answering yes or no questions.
Duane and Sette are totally in his database!
Sette's phobia(?), Duane's fighting his hunger (how long HAD it been since he'd last eaten someone?), the only Red Berry boy Starfish respected dead, ten minutes 'til checkout... oh, the repercussions, they are a'piling... Still, have to say for all (except Starfish)- poor bastards.
I went back and looked at Turas's last living expression, then forward to his ravaged corpse, and I must admit I feel quite bad for him.
These adventures Sette has had with Duane will be memories she'll keep for the rest of her life, for certain.
I find I must join the chorus on how exquisite these pages are--particularly the final one! <3 The last panel of Duane has him looking so lost and forlorn, like he needs a hug, except I'm pretty sure I don't want to get eaten, too :/
