The black background parts were great. I actually thought of turning up the volume on my computer because it made the comic seem suddenly muffled and quiet.
I'll have to trust you know where you're going on the psychedelic, tripped out scenes.
Nuuuu! I set my alarm clock to 8:55 so that I could find out if Ashley uses an auto-update thingee (assuming she's on East coast time from last update) and then accidentally turned it off.
Page 30 is GARBLEFRAGGINJOSHKINFURGLE--blewmymind gorgeous!
Wow! This is really cool. And different. I wonder where this is going, but I'm definitely along for the ride. I liked the page titles, too, and the fact that you never knew how many pages would follow. :-)
I don't think that's the khert - that's Duane's soul, viewed from the inside. Being an undead galit isn't all rainbows and butterflies, I guess.
Ashley, your creativity, story-telling and artwork are off the scale. I've read many, many comics and graphic novels in my time (I'm ancient) and you really are better than all of them. If you can maintain this level, I feel confident this will rival Watchmen.
After following this comic since somewhere around Chapter 3, this is the update that finally gets me to comment. This was such an amazing way of breaking through the usual format and bringing out something so amazingly new and fresh. From the first page of the update's "page" breaking to the middle pages' sense of confusion to that mindblowing colorful page 30-- well, this was all just amazing!
I'm going to buy the heck out of your books, but I absolutely love when you "use" the webpage, making it such a webcomic. This was fantastic. I'm going to echo archonikon on saying I felt like I could hear the silence - and then the subsequent NOT, haha.
@Silver_Skree: I didn't realize until you said that about the arrow buttons, that the next page is probably her seeing YOU (instead of wondering about the smoke eel as I originally thought). And it took my sister to tell me that it wasn't so long ago that we saw some tentacles around a skeleton...
Sooo... i need a cigarette, cause my mind was just blown o_0
Please dont kill me for my lameness, but like a dog submitting to the more dominant, lameness is how i respond to this level of pure unfiltered awesomness 0.0
When we got to that full page color picture my jaw literally dropped. While I am as artistic as a brick when it comes to visual arts, I am quite capable of recognizing Art (with a capital A) when I see it. That... was amazing. Brutal, but amazing. Meanwhile poor Sette's physical body is probably still splatted on the floor where it landed when she slipped in that pool of blood...
And now that I look back over the "pages" I noticed both the page titles, file names, and that Sette is actually seeing the navigation buttons.
Sette has begun her quest to realize the hidden truth in the greatest plot twist ever written:
It turns out... THAT UNSOUNDED WAS A WEB COMIC THE ENTIRE TIME!
Awesome. Most original comic update I've ever seen, anywhere. Perfect. We felt the same thing she did: black, black black, huh?, boom, bright! This was the best update yet, which is saying a lot. Awesome.
So I open Piperka to see which of my favorite webcomics have updated today. First thing I see is “18 new in 8.” I think, “Wow, 18 updates in one day? Must be one of the comics that hasn’t updated in a while, getting caught up all at once.” Then I see that the comic with eleven updates is Unsounded. What. Pleasedon’tbeaglitch, pleasedon’tbeaglitch. Click. Whaaat. Whaaaaaat. Whaaaaaaaaaaat. My god.
This is all one crazy trip through Sette's drugged-up psyche, isn't it? It's all her memories trying to piece itself together. The dead creature is the Mamalen Entek from the start of the journey. The two-legged octopus is the Happy Tentacle clerk. The two-headed giant is Uaid (the second head is Matty/Quigley as the pilot). The obscure structure in the background is Stockyard's place, and the path leading up to it represents Sette's long and winding journey to get there.
Of course lurkers are coming out of the woodwork for this one. Long time reader here, (I think?) first time commenter, and I just have to state that my mind has been blown. Everything about this comic is brilliant. But this. ... This. Such a creative way to use the web. Cannot wait for more.
The Khert looks like someone took drugs and played Candyland while looking a Dali painting. Which means that that is some kind of awesome you've got there. Wonderful way that you led up to the reveal of the Khert, too! Things are starting to get very interesting indeed.
Hahahaha! Love it, wonderful, absolutely wonderful.
There was a little trouble though; the images were wider than my screen so I may have missed a little bit. Just saying some of us use lightweight or tiny laptops.
