Chapter 7 - p40

February 8, 2013, at 12:07 AM

A familiar tune. Must be a Kasslynian top 40 favourite.

Fanfics are due TODAY, February 8th. You have through midnight EST to get 'em to me. They'll go up for reading and voting along with Monday's update. Actually maybe Wednesday's update, since there are over two dozen to format and read, haha. And they are long. And some of you accuse ME of being a blathermouth :D Have a good weekend, my darlings.

  1. Oh /man/ look at his hand. He wants to feel her skin something /fierce/. Or perhaps her lungs. Maybe the far side of her eyeballs?
    B on
  2. The khertfish are congregating at the entrance. "Nawt comes in here," indeed. Nice detail.
    Carolina on
  3. I love Sette´s "I ain´t dead!" face. Say, will it be possible to post comments under the fics you´ve read? Like on other websites for fanfiction?
    James Rye on
  4. Maybe Galit Bop 40. I've been really liking the bird's expressions. Awesome stuff.
    PhantomSeptember on
  5. Maybe. The fics will be in Google Docs, and I think that may have a comment thing, I will look into it.
    Ashley on
  6. That hole looks like it was carved by a hand or claw by its shape. Did she end up in that world because of that red charm she used to control Duane?
    Giush on
  7. I have to take this rare opportunity at a first post to say how awesome this comic, and especially this sequence has been. Considering how lazy some webcomic artists get, with frequent delays and missed comics, it's insane how much well written, beautiful content you produce on your own. The sights and the imagery in this section are just amazing.
    Skarjak on
  8. I still expected a more spectacular entrance for Murkoph. However, him being restrained does make sense - otherwise, Sette would be in more danger than she appears to be in now. Although, I did not notice Ashley providing any evidence whatsoever that this is not a dream sequence, rather than real (unless I missed something). Well, since Murkoph is finally here - it's officially chainsaw time! Call Juliet Starling.
    Mad'Monster'Maniac on
  9. So, Murkoph is another Galit? Also, Sette's crimson amulet might have had something to do with her ending up there, I mean, it's an amulet that gives you control over zombies, it has to have some extra power or side.effect like that.
    Giush on
  10. God, I love the direction this is going. Wherever this is going, it's sure to be good.
    gahitsu on
  11. @Giush I think it may be more due to Duane's nature as a godknowswhat than the charm. For whatever reason those red snake-y things came out when he was feeding. They came out of his shadow, and when they were trying to flee back into it, she just happened to drop through herself. Fell into Wonderland as it were. As for nawt coming into that cave...You should be a bit more worried about that Sette. There's probably a reason something as dangerous looking as that bird avoids this guy.
    That Other Guy on
  12. The bird looks curious more than anything else at the moment.
    TheWrightStuff on
  13. Murk's mouth looks verrrrry nice. I think if I have to be eaten, that would be the mouth I'd like to eat me.
    Chessie on
  14. Oh my god! I could use some more updates because this world is KILLING ME! What is it? Is she in Limbo? Did she hit her head and we're cursed to a dream sequence? And is that singing dude a vampire?! So many unanswered questions :(
    Kate-Hedgehog on
  15. I've been thinking it most likely has something to do with whatever bounced Duane's soul out of the khert rather than get collected normally when he died. Maybe some signals got crossed and the khert tries to collect his shadow instead? The recent khert fire may be playing a part here as well. Soo many possibilities.
    Zathyr on
  16. For a moment there I was happy to have Duane backish...but noo, here we got with Sette again...
    Avyator on
  17. Aw, Lady Ilgyanyag just wants hugs, Sette! Run away from the creepy guy!
    Wright of Void on
  18. Sette an' Murkoph, BFF
    Squid on
  19. I recently saw "Rescue Dawn", so I've been reading Murkoph's lines in Jeremy Davies's voice--tone, cadence, and everything.
    Lord TableShark on
  20. I think, noble Lord TableShark, that if he were to gain the voice and temperament of a Die Hard 3 circa Jeremy Irons - well, let's just say I'd be smitten and leave it at that.
    Chipper on
  21. Hey, my fic wasn't that long, it was only... oh. 1600 words. Nevermind....
    alexander hollins on
  22. My fic was about 9000. I deeply, deeply apologise. :(
    Rasputin on
  23. geez, i feel out of my league here, mine was only a little over 3000 words....
    Gibandit on
  24. Wasn't there a contest or something about that song? I find myself humming my imagined tune for it sometimes... There's a reason nawt come in, Sette! Run from the strange man!
    AngelMatvey on
  25. Ashely, is there any chance that you'll be doing this fanfiction contest again next year? I'm not gonna make it. :(
    RJF on
  26. 2400-ish is not too much. well, quality over quantity, yay! awesome page, but I need more duane.
    carol on
  27. somethin' tells me she may have died and either won't admit to it or just doesn't know it yet.
    DragonGyrl on
  28. Something about the entrance to that cave reminds me of a sphincter. So this is where we find Murkoph? Up the bum of the khert? ^^;
    Tobu on
  29. Something tells me that Murkoph is less of a threat to Sette than he is to pretty much any other character we've met. Except maybe Boo. No one would ever hurt Boo.
    N on
  30. OMG! YAY Murk! Gonna be so much fun to see how Sette handles THIS zombie X3
    Omegasama on
  31. *Adds her face to Esme's sign.
    Crestlinger on
  32. Hate to say it, but the bandaged ne'er-do-well looks like Quigley...what little I seen o' it. O.o
    YoMe on
  33. > And they are long. And some of you accuse ME of being a blathermouth :D @Ashley: What was the longest word count of those two dozen fics? 20.000? 25.000? Over 30.000 words?
    James Rye on
  34. I came across this at the recommendation of Minna Sundberg while reading A Redtail's Dream. If that comic is beautifully illustrated and creative then this one is no less so. I doubt I'm the first to do it but I read through this in one sitting and I'm blown away by your originality and characterization. Frankly I'm bordering on envious and most likely incoherent. I'm in love with everyone and everything so far (I'm not certain if Boo and Uaid count as 'things'). I think it's brilliant that you've given such a realistic amount of humanity to your folks that I feel occasional pity for the antagonists and sometimes dislike the protagonists. The fact that your race-diversity is more than just token is kind of icing on the cake though I'm sad it's something so rare that I can be delighted by it. Anyhow, your art is beautiful, your mind is magic and I'm really very sorry I rambled on so long. Thanks for the charming story

  35. As always Ashley, the way you draw faces is so bloody perfect it's hard to remember these are not real people sometimes. Damned hard.
    Emanon on
  36. Murkoph: You smell like.. DINNER!
    Sette shouldn't go near.
    ~ on
  37. Has my memory failed me something fierce? Because everyone in the comments above seems to know who this guy is, and is calling him "Murkoph", and I have NO idea who that is! Where is everyone getting the name "Murkoph" from?
    cvrc11 on
  38. @cvrc Check out Ashley's diviantart, she has a few pieces on this guy. Just remember most of it isn't cannon with this story. @Ashley As always, brilliant.
    KageMCS on
  39. @cvrc11 This is the first time we've seen Murkoph in the comic (as far as we know, hah), but he's come up on Ashley's formspring and features in some of her work on deviantart.
    Sil on
  40. @Fatima geez, if only you had been here a couple of days earlier. With comments like that you could have a great fanfic story in like 3 updates
