Third option

The Aldish "third option" is a rarely-spoken-of compromise for women who show strength in pymary. Because of the traditional patriarchal structure of Aldish society, women would only be allowed to study the "softer arts" such as cosmetic pymary; however, because of the need for battle wrights during war time, women are allowed to bind their breasts, dress as boys, and act in every way as men in society in order to attend academy and become wrights. The assumption is that if they distinguish themselves and act in the way that is expected of them, they can eventually marry, adopt children, and keep jobs the way men would without discrimination. However, there is some stigma against third-option women, and they often face some discrimination. There is a third-option character in the side story Interior Emanations.
